Handpress: Assay Windows desktop app

Worried your draft reads like AI wrote it?

Assay is an AI writing checker for your own drafts. It points to exact phrases, explains the pattern and leaves the judgement to you. You see findings, not an AI percentage or a verdict about who wrote the text.

What AI slop looks like

The telltale signs are in the words, not a score.

Padded openings, stock transitions, abstract promises and phrases that could belong to anyone. If you've ever wondered whether your own writing sounds like AI, this is what to look for. Assay shows you the exact words, their context and the reason they were flagged.

One finding at a time

Assay finds the cue. You make the call.

Keep the wording when it sounds right. Change it when it feels borrowed, vague or unlike you. Assay cannot replace your ear for your own voice.

What you can do

Let the software search. Keep the human opinion.

Assay finds familiar machine-writing patterns. You decide what sounds right, what sounds like you and what needs another pass.

O

Paste or open the text

Paste a draft, or open a Word, .txt, .md or .html file and scan the writing on your computer.

F

See the exact phrase

Every finding names the wording and shows it in context, so you know where to look.

R

Read the reason

Assay explains the recognisable pattern instead of hiding the result behind a score.

J

Follow your gut

Accept, ignore or edit each finding. A flagged phrase is something to inspect, not an order to change it.

P

Copy a focused prompt

Take a prompt back to your AI chat when you want help revising the specific issues found.

S

Save the findings

Keep a report, or save a findings file that Handpress can open beside the document.

Anti-slop

Find the lines that feel like AI slop. Keep the ones that still sound like you.

Anti-slop, for work somebody is paying for. You don't need another blind rewrite of the whole draft.

01

Run the scan

Assay looks for recognisable wording and structures across the text.

02

Trust your gut

Read the phrase, its context and the reason it was flagged. Decide whether it sounds like you.

03

Take the next step

Edit it yourself, copy a focused prompt, save a report or load the review beside the matching HTML in Handpress.

Prompt injection scanner

Some documents carry text you cannot see.

Somebody sends you a file. Between its words there can be characters that show as nothing on screen, put there for whatever AI tool you paste the file into. Assay has a separate tab that goes looking for them.

01

Buried instructions

There is a part of Unicode that renders as nothing at all and can still spell out a sentence. Assay decodes it back into readable text and shows you what it says.

02

Split words

A zero width character wedged inside a word. You read one word. Software reads two, and a filter looking for that word never finds it.

03

Lookalike letters

A Cyrillic o sitting in an English word. Assay names the character instead of printing the word back at you, because a word that looks correct tells you nothing.

04

Reordered lines

Marks that flip the direction of the text, so the line on your screen is not the line in the file.

It reads characters rather than words, so it works on a document in any language. It opens Word, HTML, Markdown and plain text, it runs on your own machine, and it costs no credits.

An important limit

It reports findings, not a verdict.

Human writers use formulas too. Assay looks for recognisable machine-writing patterns. It can't determine who wrote the text, and it doesn't try to.

What a finding means

The wording reads like a pattern Assay recognises. Read the phrase and decide whether it serves the reader.

What Assay can't tell you

Assay can't tell you whether AI or a person wrote the text. It only shows you what to review.

You decide what gets sent

The free scan never leaves your computer.

Every rule, the prompt injection scan and the hidden character check run on your own machine. The AI pass is the only part that sends your writing anywhere. It runs when you spend a credit on it, and not before.

What the AI pass sends

Your text goes to our server and on to Anthropic to be read. It is not kept. What the server stores is the finding count, the timing and how many credits you spent, never your words.
