Your documents and text
Handpress works on the files stored on your computer. The document content you open or edit in Handpress is not uploaded to an AI model by Handpress.
An HTML document can contain remotely hosted images, fonts or other resources. Opening it may request those resources from their original host. That is different from uploading the document to Handpress or an AI model.
Handpress may eventually contact a licensing or update service. A licence or update check must not include the content of your document.
Handpress: Assay keeps the free scan on your computer. The free scan, the prompt injection scan and the hidden character check all run on your own machine and send nothing anywhere. The AI pass is the only part that sends your text, and only when you choose to spend a credit on it. The text goes to our Assay service on Cloudflare and on to Anthropic to be read. Neither keeps your document or the quoted findings. What the service does keep, for 90 days, is the licence identifier, the time, the word and finding counts, the pattern categories, the credits spent, how long the scan took and the model usage figures. Feedback you send through the app stores the licence identifier and your answers until you ask us to delete them.
Information we may collect
Your name, email address, order reference, product entitlement, licence status and payment status. Card details are handled by Paddle. We never see them and we do not store them.
The details you send, any files you choose to attach and the messages needed to answer you.
Technical information such as IP address, browser, requested page, time and security events may be recorded by IONOS and related website infrastructure.
Licence key or entitlement, product version, operating system and the minimum technical information needed to validate a licence or offer an update. When you run a paid Assay scan, the service records the licence identifier, the time, the word count, the number of findings, which pattern categories they fell into, the credits spent, how long the scan took and the model usage figures. It does not record your document or the findings themselves.
Why we use personal information
- To take payment, deliver the software and manage the licence under our contract with you.
- To answer questions, provide support and deal with refund requests.
- To keep the website, licences and downloads secure and reliable where this is necessary for our legitimate interests.
- To meet accounting, tax, consumer protection and other legal duties.
- To send marketing only where we have a lawful basis to do so. Every marketing message will include a way to opt out.
Who we share information with
We may use companies that provide website hosting, payment processing, licence delivery, email, customer support, accounting, fraud prevention and software updates. They receive only the information needed to provide that service.
The services we use are IONOS for website and email hosting, Paddle for payment as merchant of record, Cloudflare for the Assay service and its licence records, and Anthropic for the Assay AI pass. Some of them process information outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, we rely on the data protection safeguards in our agreements with those providers.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is reasonably necessary to protect customers, our rights or the security of the service.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose described above, including legal, accounting, support, fraud prevention and dispute records. In practice that means order and licence records for 6 years, which UK tax rules require, support emails for 2 years, and the technical record of a paid Assay scan for 90 days. Feedback you send through the app is kept until you ask us to delete it.
Your working documents remain under your control on your computer. You are responsible for your own files and backups.
Cookies and analytics
This website does not use analytics or advertising cookies. IONOS may process standard server logs and the information needed to host and secure the site. If analytics or advertising tracking is added, this notice and any consent controls it requires will be updated first.
If analytics, Meta Pixel or another advertising service is added, the website will provide the required choices before that tracking starts.
Your rights and complaints
Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to ask for access to your personal information, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or to object to its use. You can also withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing.
Send a rights request or data protection complaint to privacy@handpresstools.co.uk. We will acknowledge a data protection complaint within 30 days, investigate it, keep you informed and give you the outcome without undue delay.
If you remain unhappy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes to this page
We will update this page when the website, checkout or products change. If a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will bring it to the attention of affected customers where required.
