Handpress basics
Handpress opens .html and .htm files, or raw HTML pasted into the app. It does not open an existing PDF for editing.
You can save the edited HTML and produce a PDF from the real pages shown in Handpress.
The current safety limits refuse files above 40 MB and documents above 250,000 elements. Invalid HTML, plain text renamed as HTML and PDFs renamed as HTML are also refused.
Handpress does not upload document content for editing. An HTML file can still contain images, fonts or other resources hosted elsewhere, which may be requested from that host when the file opens.
Handpress: Assay
The Assay product is still changing. Its file types, scans, credit allowance and data route are set out below. Assay opens Word (.docx), HTML, Markdown and plain text files, and you can paste text straight in. Its rules, its prompt injection scan and its hidden character check run on your own computer and use no credits. The AI pass is the one part that sends your text to our service and on to Anthropic, and each scan makes two reads, the findings and the general observations, each using one credit for every 2,000 words. A purchase includes 250 credits and they have no expiry date.
Whatever the final version does, a finding will remain a cue for human review, not proof of authorship.
Installation, licence and updates
Your download link is on the receipt page shown straight after payment, beside your licence key. That page keeps working, so save the link. If you lose it, email orders@handpresstools.co.uk with your order reference.
Windows shows that message for any installer it has not seen many times before. It is about how new the file is, not about what is in it. Click More info, then Run anyway. The message stops appearing as more people install the same version.
Open Assay and enter the licence key from your receipt. Assay checks the key when it opens and has an internet connection, and only the key is sent, never your writing. With no connection it works offline as normal.
The licence covers one person on up to two computers. Install it on the new machine and enter the same key. If you replace a computer, stop using it on the old one.
One year of updates is included with your purchase. Renewal after that is optional and the software keeps working without it.
Ask for help
Contact support@handpresstools.co.uk. Include:
- Your product and version.
- Your Windows version.
- What you were trying to do and what happened instead.
- The exact error message and a screenshot if useful.
- Your order reference for download, licence or update questions.
Never send a password, full payment card details or a licence key in a screenshot. Do not send confidential document content unless Support has asked for a specific sample and you are comfortable sharing it.
Sending a sample file
Most problems can be investigated from the error message and a screenshot. If a file is genuinely needed, make a copy and remove personal, confidential or commercially sensitive material first. We will explain how it will be used and deleted before asking for it.
Refunds
Support may be able to solve a setup problem, but you do not have to complete troubleshooting before asking to use the voluntary 14-day guarantee. Read the Refund Policy for the refund process and your statutory rights.
